Day Rooms

Day Rooms

Were you lucky enough to be raised in a house that had a day room? This predecessor to the sunroom is a fully enclosed area with solid walls that are lined with windows. The reason this area has fallen into lesser use is because of the more open design of the sunroom. If you have a day room that is looking old and cramped you can improve this room in three simple steps. By adding color, a few simple decorations, and an area rug you will give your room a face lift that is sure to please.

Begin your make over by adding color. Because of the time period that these rooms became popular most of their walls are covered with wooden paneling. Strip this off or simply paint over it. Consider a Dutch theme for this type of room. The light blue, bright red and green, and sunny yellow will perk up your space. These colors will provide easy access to accessories that will blend well. They will also reflect light making the room appear larger. Colorful accessories should also be used.

I suggest that you be minimal with decor. These rooms are often very small and you do not want to overpower the natural beauty which will be seen through the windows. Try selecting a few window boxes and “planting” silk tulips. These will immediately draw your visitors’ attention to your theme and look lovely all year long. Dutch window boxes are similar to American window boxes in size; however they are usually more rounded and made of wrought iron then lined with moss. These window boxes can serve double duty. Bottomless wine glasses are the height of fashion and to sit down these glasses you must use a stem holder. It can be difficult to find somewhere to place these stem holders. Yet with a window all you need to do is insert the holder into the box and your problem is solved.

Area rugs are always a nice addition to any room. Do the same with your day room; add in a nice brightly colored rug, or one that has a tulip on it. If you already have some tulips in the room, don’t overdo it though, remember this will only make it seem a lot more crowded. With the area rug though your kids can have a place to sit and play or relax.

Day rooms can add a lot to your home. They can be a beautiful place to spend time with family and friends. They are peaceful and allow for restful private moments. In addition to these wonderful features day rooms provide more insulation than a sunroom cutting your electric bill, while offering virtually the same effect. Adding a Dutch theme to your day room will make it even more enjoyable, giving you bright spring like color all year long. By following the simple steps above you can redecorate your day room quickly and inexpensively. Give it a try!

Weddings are one of the more difficult things to plan during the course of your life. Make sure that before your wedding, you are extremely organized so you are in a great position when it comes time to decide on certain questions. This will give you the best opportunity for success.

Remember to consider how you would like the alcohol at your reception served, and how much it will cost. If there is one thing people like more than alcohol, it is free alcohol, and an open bar can quickly become a huge expense, especially the longer it remains open. Check with your venue to find out the alcohol options they have for you to choose from.

If something goes wrong on your wedding day, don't freak out! My cake fell over on the way to my ceremony, and both the best man and woman were unable to attend. In the end, those people are no longer in my life and my new best woman was a cake decorator who was able to fix the cake. It will always work out!

Think of an exotic location for your wedding to make it even more fun and memorable! You could hold your ceremony at a ranch and ride a white horse down the aisle, or have it at a wildlife preserve and have an animal bring the rings down the aisle. I wouldn't recommend choosing a turtle for that job, though!

If you are planning a wedding, consider keeping your guest list on the smaller side. You can save money by having not so many guests. You can show your small number of guests' greater details such as large gift baskets, large meals, and limo services. This can be paid for just by reducing your guest list.

Consider visiting a local park or museum to have your wedding photos taken. It's amazing to have a gorgeous background in your photographs, but sometimes your actual wedding location might not offer such a view. Look around before committing to a photographer. You do not want to have someone taking wedding pictures that you are not pleased with. Look for online reviews to find great photographers.

Try to avoid being sick for your wedding! Up your intake of Vitamin C and eat only healthy items in the weeks leading up to the big day. Stay away from any foods that may cause stomach upset or gas as the last thing you want to do when you're standing at the front of the ceremony is be flatulent!

It is okay to let loose at your wedding reception. Many people take their wedding day too serious and do not remember it is supposed to be a joyous occasion. When this happens, they look back at their special day with unpleasant memories. Laugh with your guests, and dance to upbeat music.
